DAY 04

HABARNA – MATALE – CANADIAN AND FOLKLORE SHOW

Today after breakfast we will drive to the heart of the spice plantations – the town of Matale, the spice growing Island area. We will stop to visit a spice farm, hear about the adventurers who were drawn to the magic of exotic flavours and the trading companies that came to the place in search of exciting flavours. We will see the spice gardens, and we will learn what Kerry looks like, what is the shape of vanilla, and what is the real taste of cinnamon and black pepper as live plants. We will continue our journey to Kandy, which was the last capital city (until the arrival of the English) of the kings of Sri Lanka. We will go to a view and see why the attempts to conquer the city failed. We will continue to the maze of alleys of the old city and get lost among the old buildings, shops, restaurants and delicatessens. Fragrances of old and new are mixed. We will continue to visit the temple.

The Tooth” – a temple where one of Buddha’s teeth from 2500 years ago is preserved, which was declared a world heritage site. Ceremonies are held in the temple during the day, and it is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the Buddhist world. We will also visit a museum of precious stones and a workshop for making art pieces. We will end our day with a folklore show, local music – movement and dance accompanied by the beat of the drum, another touch in the world of Sri Lanka. In the evening, we will arrive at our hotel for the night.
